10 Israeli Soldiers Arrested for Gang-Raping Palestinian Detainee, Sparking Protests
Jul 29, 2024, 06:00 PM
A significant incident occurred at the Sde Teiman detention facility in southern Israel, where ten Israeli soldiers were arrested by Military Police on suspicion of severely abusing and gang-raping a Palestinian detainee from Gaza. The detainee was hospitalized with severe injuries, including a rectum injury. The arrests led to a heated confrontation between soldiers and Military Police. Following the detentions, far-right protesters, including Knesset members, stormed the facility in an attempt to prevent the arrests and demanded the release of the detained soldiers. Protests also erupted at the Beit Lid military base in central Israel, where the soldiers were being held for questioning. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) had to deploy additional troops to manage the situation. IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi condemned the infiltration of military bases, stating it significantly harms Israel's security and democracy.
