China Extends Visa-Free Transit Stays to 240 Hours Effective December 17 for 54 Countries, Increases Eligible Ports to 60
Dec 17, 2024, 03:11 AM
China has announced a significant relaxation of its visa-free transit policy, effective December 17, 2024. The new regulations extend the permitted stay for eligible foreign travelers from the previous limits of 72 and 144 hours to 240 hours, or 10 days. This change is aimed at boosting tourism and facilitating travel for citizens from 54 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Brazil, and Canada. In addition to the extended stay, China has increased the number of designated visa-free entry ports to 60 across 24 provincial regions. The National Immigration Administration reported that from January to November 2024, approximately 29.2 million foreigners entered China, marking an 86.2% year-on-year increase. Out of these, 17.4 million entries were made under visa-free policies, representing a 123.3% increase from the previous year. The policy adjustment is part of China's broader strategy to enhance international openness and encourage more foreign visitors.
