SEC to Adopt New Rules for Half-Penny Stock Pricing
Sep 18, 2024, 02:02 PM
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is set to adopt new rules allowing exchanges to quote stock prices in increments of less than a penny, including half-penny increments. This move, part of a larger package of proposed reforms, aims to boost competition and reduce trading costs for investors. The SEC's decision, expected on Wednesday, could constitute the biggest overhaul of U.S. equity markets in nearly 20 years. The new regulations, known as 'tick-size' rules, will also lower fees that exchanges can charge brokers. Thousands of stocks and ETFs are expected to be affected by these changes.
