Auckland City Mission Distributes Meth-Laced Candies with 300 Times Usual Dose
Aug 14, 2024, 12:03 PM
A New Zealand charity, Auckland City Mission, unknowingly distributed pineapple-flavored candies laced with potentially lethal amounts of methamphetamine. The discovery was made after a client reported the candies tasted unusual, prompting tests that revealed the presence of methamphetamine, with each candy containing up to 300 times the usual dose. Up to 400 people may have received the contaminated sweets, and three individuals, including a child and a teenager, have sought medical attention. New Zealand police have launched an investigation to identify the source of the meth-laced candies, which were packaged in Rinda-branded wrappers. The charity has issued an apology and is working with authorities to recall the distributed sweets.
