Azerbaijan Applies to Join BRICS Bloc on August 20, 2024
Aug 20, 2024, 01:37 PM
Azerbaijan has officially applied to join the BRICS economic bloc, as confirmed by the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 20, 2024. This move follows a meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The application marks a significant step in Azerbaijan's geopolitical ambitions, as it seeks to align itself with the group of emerging economies comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The head of the Press Service Department of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aykhan Hajizada, confirmed the submission of the application. Azerbaijan's ambassador to Moscow, Polad Bulbuloglu, had earlier expressed the country's interest in joining BRICS.
