Northwest Naturals, a pet food company based in Portland, Oregon, has issued a voluntary recall of its 2-pound Feline Turkey Recipe raw frozen pet food due to contamination with the H5N1 bird flu virus. This action follows the death of an indoor cat in Oregon, which contracted the virus after consuming the recalled food. The Oregon Department of Agriculture confirmed the case, stating that the cat was strictly indoor and had ingested the contaminated product. The recall affects pet food distributed across 12 U.S. states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Washington, as well as British Columbia in Canada. Authorities have warned pet owners against feeding their pets raw food following the detection of the virus in the recalled products.
