Defence Secretary Grant Shapps has lost his seat in Welwyn Hatfield, Hertfordshire, to Labour candidate Andrew Lewin. Shapps, who has held the seat since 2005, was defeated with a Labour majority of 3,800 votes and a 14% swing. This marks the second Cabinet minister to lose their seat in the 2024 General Election, following Alex Chalk. Shapps was also a contender for the Tory leadership, making him the first from the field of potential Tory leadership hopefuls to be ousted.
