Amit Elor Wins Gold in 68kg Wrestling, Youngest American Champion with 3-0 Victory
Aug 6, 2024, 08:05 PM
Amit Elor, a 20-year-old wrestler from Walnut Creek, California, has made history by becoming the youngest American to win an Olympic gold medal in wrestling. Competing in the 68kg women's freestyle category at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Elor defeated Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan 3-0 in the final match. Elor, who was born to Israeli parents, has been on an impressive winning streak since 2019, culminating in her Olympic triumph. She outscored her competition 31-2 throughout the tournament and has now extended her unbeaten run to 82 matches. Elor's achievement surpasses Kyle Snyder's record, making her the youngest U.S. wrestling gold medalist in history. With Yui Susaki's loss earlier today, Elor is now considered one of the world's best pound-for-pound wrestlers.
