Sakana AI and Oxford Unveil AI Scientist for $15 Automated Research
Aug 13, 2024, 02:42 AM
Japanese AI company Sakana, in collaboration with the University of Oxford and the University of British Columbia, has introduced The AI Scientist, the world's first AI system designed for fully automated scientific research and discovery. This innovative system employs large language models (LLMs) to autonomously generate research ideas, write code, conduct experiments, and draft scientific papers. The AI Scientist can also perform peer reviews, simulating an entire scientific research lifecycle without human intervention. The system, costing less than $15, has demonstrated its capabilities by producing papers with novel contributions in machine learning research areas such as language modeling, diffusion, and grokking. The development marks a significant advancement towards achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI), potentially accelerating the pace of scientific research and transforming the landscape of academia.
