Meta to Introduce AI-Generated Users on Facebook and Instagram to Boost Engagement

Meta Platforms Inc. is planning to introduce AI-generated users to its social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, to enhance user engagement. These AI-powered users, or bots, will feature bios, profile pictures, and the ability to generate and share content similar to regular accounts. Connor Hayes, Meta's vice president of product for generative AI, indicated that these AI entities are expected to become a permanent fixture on Meta's platforms over time. The initiative is part of Meta's broader strategy to leverage artificial intelligence to make its platforms more engaging and entertaining, with a focus on the next two years. This move comes as Meta, which serves over 3 billion users, launched its AI Studio tool in July to allow the creation of such AI characters.
