Navy CNO Admiral Franchetti Declared Healthy After Stage 1 Breast Cancer Treatment
Sep 21, 2024, 03:30 PM
Admiral Lisa Franchetti, the Chief of Naval Operations, has been declared healthy after undergoing treatment for Stage 1 breast cancer. The cancer was discovered during a routine mammogram in June, and she underwent outpatient surgery in July at the John P. Murtha Cancer Center at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Franchetti also completed radiation therapy and began maintenance endocrine therapy this month. She notified her chain of command, including Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro, about her diagnosis and treatment. The Navy disclosed her medical condition and absence from leading the Navy for a brief period for the first time in a press release on Friday.
