Norway Detects Cesium-137, Uranium-235 Along Border with Russia
Sep 17, 2024, 01:24 PM
Norwegian authorities have detected traces of radioactive Cesium-137 and Uranium-235 along the border with Russia. The measurements, taken between September 9th and 12th, revealed very low levels of radioactivity that pose no risk to humans or the environment. The Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA) confirmed the findings, noting that the exact source of the radioactivity remains unknown. The radioactivity was measured in filters at Viksjøfjell and Svanhovd. There is speculation that the spike could be linked to a possible test of Russia’s new nuclear-powered cruise missile, Burevestnik. The Barents Observer reported that the levels are higher than usual, according to Bredo Møller with DSA’s Emergency Preparedness.
