Biden Deploys 10 Navy Helicopters, MAFFS Units to Fight LA Wildfires, Pledges Full Support
Jan 8, 2025, 08:19 PM
President Joe Biden has pledged full federal support to combat the wildfires raging across Los Angeles County, stating that the government is prepared to do 'anything and everything' for as long as it takes to contain the fires and aid in reconstruction efforts. Biden signed a major disaster declaration for the region on Wednesday, following a briefing on the situation. The Department of Defense is deploying 10 Navy helicopters equipped with water buckets from San Diego, along with two Modular Airborne FireFighting System (MAFFS) units from the California and Nevada National Guards to assist in firefighting efforts. The wildfires have resulted in at least two deaths and the destruction of over 1,000 structures, with the Palisades Fire alone burning more than 11,800 acres and the Eaton Fire covering over 10,000 acres, both with 0% containment.
