Illinois Bans Corporal Punishment in Schools

Illinois has enacted a ban on corporal punishment in all schools, becoming only the fifth state in the United States to implement such a prohibition. This legislative move reflects a growing trend toward eliminating physical discipline in educational settings. The decision aligns with increasing advocacy against corporal punishment, emphasizing that hitting children should never be allowed. Currently, 17 states still permit corporal punishment in schools, although four of these states prohibit its use on students with disabilities.
