Tomiko Itooka, recognized as the world's oldest person by Guinness World Records, passed away at the age of 116 in Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. Itooka died of old age on December 29, 2024, at a nursing home in the city. She was born on May 23, 1908, in Osaka and became the world's oldest person following the death of the previous record holder in Spain in August 2024. Itooka was known for her fondness for lactic acid beverages and her habit of expressing gratitude to the staff at her nursing home.
