Philippines Confirms Two New Clade II Mpox Cases on August 26, Total Reaches 12

The Philippines has confirmed two additional cases of the mpox virus, both of which are the milder MPXV Clade II variant, according to the Department of Health on August 26. This brings the total number of active mpox cases in the country to three, with an overall total of 12 cases reported this year. The new cases were detected in Metro Manila. Meanwhile, South Korea has reported 11 mpox cases this year, all of which are also the less deadly Clade II variant. Asian countries have been increasing precautions following reports of a new, more severe strain, Clade 1B, found outside the African continent.
