The race for Washington's Lands Commissioner in the November general election was the tightest on record in the state's primary history. Following a statewide hand recount, Dave Upthegrove narrowly secured his place on the ballot by just 49 votes, ahead of Sue Kuehl Pederson. The recount results, certified by the state, showed Upthegrove will face Jaime Herrera Beutler in the upcoming election. Initial results had shown Upthegrove winning by 51 votes.
