Matthew Hudson-Smith of Great Britain claimed a silver medal in the men's 400 meters at the Paris Olympics, setting a new European record with a time of 43.44 seconds. He narrowly missed the gold by four one hundredths of a second, which was won by Quincy Hall of the United States. Hudson-Smith's performance marked a significant achievement as he became Britain's first male 400m Olympic medalist since 1996.
