Hideki Matsuyama Wins The Sentry with Record 35-Under Par, Three Shots Ahead of Morikawa
Jan 5, 2025, 09:33 PM
Hideki Matsuyama secured his 11th PGA Tour victory at The Sentry, the season-opening event held at Kapalua's Plantation Course in Hawaii. Matsuyama finished with a record-breaking score of 35-under par, surpassing the previous record set by Cameron Smith in 2022. His final round included an eagle and seven birdies, culminating in a three-shot victory over Collin Morikawa, who finished at 32-under par. Matsuyama's performance not only set a new benchmark for the lowest 72-hole score in relation to par on the PGA Tour but also marked his third win in the last 11 months, all in signature events. The victory earned Matsuyama $3.6 million from the $20 million purse and 700 FedEx Cup points. Sungjae Im finished third at 29-under par. During the tournament, Taylor Pendrith made the first albatross in The Sentry's history at Kapalua on the par-5 fifth hole.
