Gov. Gavin Newsom Signs Landmark AI Bills AB 2602 Protecting Actors' Digital Likenesses on Tuesday
Sep 17, 2024, 07:40 PM
California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed two landmark bills into law aimed at protecting actors and performers from unauthorized use of artificial intelligence (AI) to create digital replicas of their likenesses and voices. The legislation, celebrated by SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher, ensures performers' legal rights when negotiating digital replicas and sets rules for recreating performers who have passed away. The new laws, signed at the SAG-AFTRA headquarters in Los Angeles on Tuesday, provide greater protection over the use of performers' digital likenesses during their lives and to their estates, marking a significant step forward in regulating the evolving AI space in the entertainment industry. One of the bills signed is AB 2602.
