Democrat George Whitesides Wins California's 27th Congressional District, Flipping Seat from Incumbent Mike Garcia
Nov 12, 2024, 03:07 AM
Democrat George Whitesides has won the US House election in California's 27th Congressional District, defeating Republican incumbent Mike Garcia. Whitesides' victory marks a significant flip for the Democrats in this competitive district. Initially, Whitesides held a narrow lead of 2,114 votes, but this margin increased to 4,730 votes by Monday. The final tally showed Whitesides with 51.21% of the vote (147,567 votes) compared to Garcia's 48.79% (140,584 votes). Garcia, who has had a history of close wins in this blue-leaning district, conceded the race and congratulated Whitesides. NBC News projects the win, and Decision Desk HQ made the call at 10:10pm ET.
