Israeli Officials: Hamas Chief Deif Likely Killed in Gaza Strike, Netanyahu Visits Rafah
Jul 18, 2024, 12:19 PM
Israeli officials have informed the US that the chances of Hamas terror chief Muhammad Deif surviving a recent assassination strike are very slim, according to intelligence estimates. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are increasingly certain that Deif died in the strike, which took place in Khan Yunis this past Saturday. Several of Deif's bodyguards were also eliminated in the Gaza strike. Hamas is currently experiencing significant instability and losses, with fighters in 'survival mode'. Senior Israeli officials believe that the position for head of Hamas's military wing will likely go to Muhammad Sinwar, the brother of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu visited Rafah in southern Gaza, likely feeling confident due to the eliminations of key Hamas figures, including Deif. Israeli intelligence has also released intercepted phone calls between Gazan civilians on July 13 praising the assassination of Deif and expressing hope that Yahya Sinwar will be next.
