Han Dong-hoon Urges Suspension of President Yoon Over Martial Law and Arrest Orders
Dec 6, 2024, 01:17 AM
On Friday, South Korea's ruling party leader, Han Dong-hoon, called for the swift suspension of President Yoon Suk Yeol from office following the president's brief declaration of martial law. Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, stated that the "rapid suspension of President Yoon's duties is necessary to protect South Korea and its people." The martial law, which lasted just six hours, has raised serious concerns within the ruling party. Han warned that there is a "significant risk that extreme actions similar to the martial law declaration could be repeated." He also alleged that he had received intelligence indicating that President Yoon ordered troops to arrest prominent opposition politicians during the martial law period. The shift in stance by the ruling party increases the likelihood of an impeachment motion passing against President Yoon.
