Arizona State Wins Big 12 Title in First Year, Beats Iowa State 45-19 to Clinch Playoff Berth
Dec 7, 2024, 08:34 PM
Arizona State University captured its first conference title since 1996 by defeating Iowa State 45-19 in the Big 12 Championship at AT&T Stadium on Saturday. Running back Cam Skattebo led the Sun Devils with 147 rushing yards and three touchdowns, at one point striking the Heisman pose after scoring. Under 34-year-old head coach Kenny Dillingham, Arizona State completed a remarkable turnaround from last season’s 3-9 record. Picked to finish last in the preseason poll for their first year in the Big 12, the Sun Devils secured their spot in the College Football Playoff by winning their sixth consecutive game. Commissioner Brett Yormark acknowledged their achievement, stating, "As far as I'm concerned, you've punched your ticket to Tempe!" Arizona State's recent winning streak has been marked by an average margin of victory of 18 points, cementing their status as one of the hottest teams in college football.
