The game, delayed due to a deadly New Year's Day attack in New Orleans, saw the Fighting Irish rely on strong defense and special teams to secure the victory. Quarterback Riley Leonard threw a touchdown pass, and Jayden Harrison returned a kickoff 98 yards for a score. The win snapped Notre Dame's 31-year drought in major bowl games, ending an 0-10 streak. With all four top seeds eliminated and no conference champions remaining, the semifinals will feature teams seeded 5 through 8: Notre Dame (No. 7) against Penn State (No. 6), and Ohio State (No. 8) versus Texas (No. 5).
