Skild AI Raises $300M Series A at $1.5B Valuation to Build Scalable AI Model for Robotics
Jul 9, 2024, 07:39 PM
Skild AI, a Pittsburgh-based startup founded by former Carnegie Mellon professors Abhinav Gupta and Deepak Pathak, has emerged from stealth with a $300 million Series A funding round. The company is valued at $1.5 billion and aims to build a scalable AI foundation model for robotics, described as a 'general purpose brain' for robots. This model is trained on 1000 times more data than other models used in robotics, enabling robots to perform tasks they have never learned. The funding round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from SoftBank, Coatue, and Jeff Bezos. Sequoia, which has been a partner since the seed round, will also join the board. Skild AI's mission is to reduce the hazards and dangers of physical labor through advanced robotics. The company is working on embodied intelligence with its elite founders and top-tier team.
