American sprinter Noah Lyles won the gold medal in the men's 100 meters at the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming the first American to achieve this feat since 2004. The 27-year-old from Alexandria, Va., clocked a personal-best time of 9.79 seconds, narrowly edging out Jamaican Kishane Thompson by five-thousandths of a second in a dramatic photo finish. This victory also ended the longest Olympic men's 100m gold-medal drought in U.S. history. Fred Kerley of the USA secured the bronze with a time of 9.81 seconds.
