French Rail and Telecom Networks Sabotaged Amid Paris 2024 Olympics, Eurostar Affected, Says Vergriete
Jul 29, 2024, 06:04 AM
French high-speed train services and telecommunications infrastructure have been targeted by coordinated sabotage attacks amid the Paris 2024 Olympics. On Friday, arson attacks disrupted three major rail lines, causing significant delays and cancellations for tens of thousands of passengers, including Eurostar services. The French railway company SNCF has been working to restore services, with normal operations expected to resume by Monday, according to Transport Minister Patrice Vergriete. Additionally, fiber optic networks across several parts of France were vandalized, affecting internet and telecommunications services. Authorities have arrested a far-left activist in connection with the railway attacks, and investigations are ongoing to identify other perpetrators. The French government remains on high alert as the Paris Olympics continue.
