Tony Todd, 'Candyman' and 'Star Trek' Actor, Dies at 69 After Long Illness
Nov 9, 2024, 03:27 AM
Tony Todd, the actor best known for his role in the "Candyman" film series, has passed away at the age of 69 at his home in Marina Del Rey, California, on Wednesday. A representative confirmed his death, stating that he died after a long illness, though the specific cause was not disclosed. Todd's career spanned over four decades and included notable roles in films such as "Final Destination," "The Crow," "Platoon," and the 1990 remake of "Night of the Living Dead" directed by Tom Savini. He was also known for his television appearances, including playing Kurn, the brother of Worf, in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," and voicing the character Zoom in "The Flash." Recently, he provided the voice of Venom in "Marvel's Spider-Man 2." His commanding presence and gravelly voice made him a beloved figure in the horror and science fiction genres. His "Candyman" co-star Virginia Madsen paid tribute, saying, "The great actor Tony Todd has left us and now is an angel. As he was in life. More later but I can’t right now. I love you."
