Xpeng and Volkswagen Expand Global Collaboration on EV Architecture with CEA, Mass Production by 2026
Jul 22, 2024, 01:56 AM
Xpeng and Volkswagen have expanded their collaboration from a China-only initiative to a global one, focusing on the Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform. Nearly a year after Volkswagen's $700 million investment in Xpeng, the two companies have established a project house to accelerate the development of new electric vehicle (EV) architecture. This partnership involves Volkswagen China Technology Co (VCTC), CARIAD China, and Xpeng working together to develop the China Electronic Architecture (CEA), which will be the 'soul' of future Volkswagen models. The first vehicle under this new architecture is expected to start mass production within approximately 24 months, with Volkswagen models equipped with the CEA architecture starting in 2026. The collaboration aims to develop a new electrical and electronic solution for all battery-powered cars made in China under the Volkswagen brand.
