Florida Judge Uses VR in Stand-Your-Ground Court Case
Jan 2, 2025, 06:58 PM
A Florida courtroom has made history by incorporating virtual reality technology into legal proceedings. Broward Judge Andrew Siegel used an Oculus Quest 2 VR headset to experience a crime scene from the perspective of a defendant in a self-defense, stand-your-ground case. The VR recreation was designed by an artist to illustrate a defense expert’s opinion in the trial of Miguel Albisu, a Southwest Ranches wedding venue owner. Prosecutors and witnesses also used the VR headset during the trial. This marks the first known instance of virtual reality being utilized in a U.S. courtroom, potentially setting a precedent for future legal cases.
