Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who was elected in 1976 and served from 1977 to 1981, died on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at his home in Plains, Georgia. He was 100 years old and the longest-lived president in U.S. history. His death was confirmed by his son, Chip Carter, and occurred around 3:45 p.m., with family members by his side. After leaving office, Carter devoted himself to philanthropy and humanitarian causes, promoting health, democracy, and conflict resolution through the Carter Center. He entered hospice care in February 2023 and had the longest post-presidency in U.S. history, redefining the role with his extensive global work. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his efforts in resolving international conflicts.
