Sep 1, 2024, 05:48 PM
Summer 2024 has been recorded as the hottest on record in Phoenix, surpassing the previous record set in 2023. This trend of extreme heat was not isolated to Phoenix, as Las Vegas also experienced record hot summers. The summer of 2024 saw 12 heat waves and over 250 all-time high temperatures across the United States, with significant heat affecting both coasts. Arizona's major climate sites, including Phoenix and Yuma, reported their hottest summers based on average daily temperature, with records dating back to 1896 and 1878, respectively. Other regions in the U.S. also experienced unusually warm temperatures, with Reading recording its warmest summer, Philadelphia its fourth warmest, and Atlantic City Airport its sixth warmest. Labor Day 2024 weekend will feel Phoenix's likely hottest recorded summer, and it was painfully humid in Florida.
