Russia's Massive Missile Strikes Leave Over 1 Million Ukrainians Without Power Amid Freezing Temperatures
Nov 28, 2024, 06:58 AM
Russia launched a massive missile and drone assault on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, causing widespread power outages during freezing temperatures. On November 28, Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko reported that Russian forces struck a "massive blow" to the nation's power grid, targeting energy facilities throughout the country. Over 30 Russian Kh-101 and Kh-555 missiles were launched, along with Iranian-made drones, in attacks that caused explosions in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Rivne, Lutsk, Khmelnytskyi, Mykolaiv, Odessa, and other cities. Air raid alarms sounded nationwide as residents took shelter in metro stations. Emergency power outages were implemented, affecting at least one million people in three western regions. This attack follows earlier strikes on November 26 and 27, when Russian troops used Iranian-made Shahed drones to target energy facilities in Ternopil, leaving the city without electricity, water, and heat. During the November 26 attack on Ternopil, 188 projectiles were fired, of which 76 were intercepted by Ukrainian defenses.
