Jan 8, 2025, 10:40 AM
Italian journalist Cecilia Sala, 29, has been released from prison in Iran and is returning to Italy. Sala was arrested on December 19, 2024, in Tehran for violating Iranian laws and had been detained in solitary confinement at Evin Prison for over three weeks. The Italian government confirmed her release, with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni informing Sala's parents personally. The plane carrying Sala departed from Tehran this morning and is expected to arrive at Ciampino Airport later today. Sala's release comes after diplomatic efforts by Italy's government and intelligence services.
