Sep 11, 2024, 03:55 PM
The spread of H5N1 bird flu, also known as Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, has been detected in dairy herds across the United States. Recent reports confirmed the presence of the virus in a Shiawassee County dairy herd in Michigan. Additionally, three more infected dairy herds have been found in California, bringing the total number of affected herds in the state to six. Nationally, the cumulative total of infected herds has reached 202 across 14 states. The USDA confirmed these cases, noting that the national total previously stood at 201 herds. Health organizations are raising alerts about the zoonotic potential of avian influenza viruses and are advocating for close monitoring and assessment of current threats.
