US Space Force, Established by President Trump, Celebrates Fifth Anniversary
Dec 20, 2024, 04:00 PM
The United States Space Force (USSF) marked its fifth anniversary on December 20, 2024, commemorating five years since its establishment on December 20, 2019, through the Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act signed by President Donald Trump. The USSF, the sixth branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, was created to protect America's interests in space and ensure dominance in the space domain, operating under the motto "Semper Supra" ("Always Above"). The anniversary was celebrated by various government officials, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who expressed gratitude for the work of the USSF and its Guardians in securing the nation’s interests "in, from, and to space." Former Vice President Mike Pence reflected on playing a part in establishing the USSF, calling it "one of the greatest honors of my career." Lawmakers such as Senators Katie Britt, Rick Scott, and John Boozman, and Representatives Mike Turner, Greg Steube, and others, acknowledged the significant milestone and thanked the Guardians for their service. The Department of Defense and other military branches also extended their congratulations, highlighting the USSF's role in innovation, exploration, and national security. The USSF's commitment to securing the nation's interests in space continues to be recognized as critical in the evolving landscape of space operations.
