California's AB56 Proposes Mental Health Warnings on Social Media Platforms
Dec 9, 2024, 11:32 PM
California lawmakers have introduced a bill that would require social media platforms such as TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram to display mental health warning labels. The bill, spearheaded by Rebecca Bauer-Kahan and supported by California Attorney General Rob Bonta, aims to address the addictive nature of these platforms and their potential mental health risks. If passed, California would become the first U.S. state to mandate such warnings. The initiative, known as AB56, highlights growing concerns about the impact of social media on mental health, particularly among younger users. The effort is also backed by CommonSense, whose CEO Jim Steyer has been vocal about the issue.
