Syrian Tribal Forces Capture 81.2 Sq Km, Approach Al-Omar Oil Field in Deir Ezzor
Aug 7, 2024, 11:14 AM
Pro-Assad Syrian Arab tribal forces, trained by the Syrian Arab Army, have launched a large-scale offensive against the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the eastern region of Deir Ezzor, Syria. The tribal forces have taken control of several villages and towns on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River, including Diban, Al-Busayra, and Garanij, capturing 81.2 square kilometers. The offensive has brought the tribal forces close to the US-occupied Al-Omar oil field, prompting the US to send military reinforcements and conduct airstrikes. The situation has escalated with the tribes raising their flag over captured areas and the SDF seeking a truce to retrieve the bodies of their dead.
