Russian Forces Capture 547 Sq Km in Ukraine, April Casualties Spike
May 3, 2024, 01:18 PM
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported that Russian forces have captured 547 square kilometers of territory in Ukraine since the beginning of the year. This area includes the towns of Novobakhmutovka, Semenovka, and Berdychi in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). Additionally, as of the end of April 2024, Russia's total occupation in Ukraine amounts to 17.53%, which includes Crimea and parts of Donetsk and Luhansk occupied before 2022. The recent territorial gains represent an increase of approximately 86 square kilometers since the end of March. Shoigu also noted a significant increase in Ukrainian military losses, with daily casualties rising to 1,000 in April, influenced by U.S. demands to counter Russian advances.
