Libyan Delegation Led by Waleed Al-Laafi Arrives in Damascus on December 28 for First Official Visit Since Assad's Fall

A high-level delegation from Libya's National Unity Government, led by Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs Waleed Al-Laafi, arrived in Damascus on December 28, 2024, marking the first official visit since the fall of the previous Syrian regime. The delegation included the Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation, Ali Al-Abed, and the Director of Military Intelligence. Upon arrival, they met with Ahmed Al-Sharaa, the head of the new Syrian administration, to discuss various aspects of cooperation, particularly in security and energy sectors. Al-Laafi expressed full support for the Syrian people and their new leadership during this transitional phase and announced plans to appoint a permanent ambassador to Syria. The visit is seen as a step towards strengthening bilateral relations between Libya and Syria.
