EU Allocates €1.4 Billion from Frozen Russian Assets for Ukraine's Military and Energy Needs
Sep 19, 2024, 10:30 AM
The European Union has directed €1.4 billion in profits from frozen Russian assets to purchase weapons and military aid for Ukraine. Additionally, the EU will allocate €160 million from these frozen assets to address Ukraine's urgent humanitarian needs this winter. This includes €100 million specifically aimed at supporting Ukraine's energy sector, which has been severely impacted by ongoing Russian strikes and the loss of about 9 GW of energy infrastructure. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced these measures, which also include the construction of a fuel power plant.
