Bitcoin, the world's first cryptocurrency, celebrated its 16th anniversary on January 3, 2025. The cryptocurrency was launched by an individual or group using the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, who mined the Genesis Block on January 3, 2009. This block contained 50 BTC and included a message referencing a headline from The Times newspaper about the financial crisis. Bitcoin has grown from a niche experiment among cryptographers to become the seventh most valuable asset globally, with a market value approaching $2 trillion. It has inspired over 10,000 other cryptocurrencies and has created a comprehensive industry including cryptocurrency exchanges, digital wallets, and trading platforms.
