The Chinese video game 'Black Myth: Wukong', developed by Game Science and backed by Tencent, has made a significant impact on the gaming industry following its global launch on August 20, 2024. Within hours of its release, the game achieved over 2.2 million concurrent players on Steam, breaking records for single-player games and becoming the second most-played game on the platform. This remarkable achievement surpasses previous records held by major titles such as 'Cyberpunk 2077', 'Elden Ring', and 'Palworld'. Initially, the game recorded 935k concurrent players shortly after its launch, eventually reaching 1.4 million players.
