During the period from July 2023 to June 2024, global temperatures were the highest on record, averaging 1.64 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels. This unprecedented heat has raised concerns about extreme weather events and the increased likelihood of tipping points, such as the melting of the Greenland ice sheet. Earth baked in heat 1.5 degrees above the preindustrial average for 12 months, data shows.
