Ukraine Halts Destruction of 6 Million Soviet-Era Landmines Amid Russian Invasion
Nov 26, 2024, 09:43 AM
Ukraine will not fulfill its commitment to destroy a stockpile of around 6 million landmines left over from the Soviet Union due to Russia's invasion, a defense official stated on Tuesday. This decision comes in connection with the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention's Oslo Action Plan, as landmines continue to pose a significant threat to the Ukrainian people. The British Army is providing Explosive Ordnance Disposal training to Ukrainian recruits to help protect their land from mines.
