Delhi LG Stays July 2 Transfer Orders for 5,000 Teachers Amid Controversy
Jul 8, 2024, 04:14 AM
The Delhi government issued transfer orders for 5,000 school teachers, which sparked significant controversy and opposition. The transfers, announced without a comprehensive policy, led to protests from teachers and political backlash. The BJP and various teacher associations urged the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Delhi to intervene. Following discussions, L-G V.K. Saxena ordered an interim stay on the transfer orders and directed the education department to relook at the policy. The transfers, initially issued on July 2, affected teachers who had been in the same school for over 10 years. AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, criticized the transfers, claiming they were politically motivated and detrimental to the education system. The L-G's intervention has provided temporary relief to the affected teachers.
