Suspended Labour MP Mike Amesbury has pleaded guilty to assault by beating after an incident in Frodsham, Cheshire, where he punched 45-year-old Paul Fellows. The assault, captured on CCTV footage, occurred in the early hours of October 26, following a dispute over a bridge closure. Amesbury, who now sits as an independent in Parliament, initially knocked Fellows to the ground with a punch to the head and then continued to punch him at least five more times. The Labour Party expelled Amesbury following his guilty plea, and he faces a potential jail sentence when he is sentenced on February 24, which could trigger a by-election in his Runcorn and Helsby constituency. Amesbury expressed regret for the incident, apologizing to Fellows and his family.
