Speaker Johnson Bans Transgender Women from Capitol Facilities, Citing 'Women Deserve Women’s Only Spaces'
Nov 20, 2024, 05:29 PM
House Speaker Mike Johnson announced on Wednesday a policy that prohibits transgender women from using women's restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms in the U.S. Capitol and House office buildings. The policy states that all single-sex facilities are reserved for individuals of that biological sex. Johnson said, 'Women deserve women’s only spaces.' The move comes after Rep. Nancy Mace introduced a bill on the matter, backed by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, and as Congress prepares to welcome its first openly transgender member, Rep.-elect Sarah McBride.
