Nov 21, 2024, 10:28 PM
The Boston Celtics visited the White House on Thursday to be honored by President Joe Biden for winning their 18th NBA championship in 2024, setting a new NBA record for the most titles by a franchise. The team, led by coach Joe Mazzulla from Rhode Island, celebrated their victory over the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals last June. Jayson Tatum and Derrick White presented President Biden with a Celtics jersey bearing the number 46. Biden congratulated the team, saying, "From this old Irish Celtic to all of you Celtics, congratulations." Al Horford expressed excitement about the visit, stating, "It's going to be awesome." This was the Celtics' first visit to the White House since 1963, reaffirming a longstanding tradition.
